Anthrax is an American heavy metal band formed in New York City in 1981. The band is one of the "big four" of thrash metal, alongside Metallica, Slayer, and Megadeth. Anthrax's lineup has gone through several changes over the years, with guitarist Scott Ian being the only constant member throughout the band's history. Anthrax's debut album, "Fistful of Metal," was released in 1984, and featured a more traditional heavy metal sound. However, it was their second album, "Spreading the Disease," released in 1985, that solidified their place in the thrash metal scene. The album featured the hit single "Madhouse," and helped to establish Anthrax as one of the leading bands in the genre. Over the years, Anthrax has released a number of critically acclaimed albums, including "Among the Living" (1987), "Persistence of Time" (1990), and "Worship Music" (2011). The band's unique sound, which blends elements of thrash metal, punk, and heavy metal, has earned them a devoted fan base.
